The Lib Dem Focus team has secured a commitment to keep the Shawbirch East site as green as possible.

Cllr Bill Tomlinson (Shawbirch), Cllr Karen Blundell (Apley Castle) and Cllr Karen Tomlinson (Dothill), working alongside local residents, raised a series of questions about the site at the full Council meeting in July . Local Lib Dem councillors have continued to work with the "Keep Shawbirch Green" action group, since the successful campaign to stop a polluting toilet roll factory on the site earlier this year.

Cabinet Member for Development David Wright in answering the questions gave a commitment to keep the site as green as possible. Cllr Wright stated on behalf of the Council that, even if the Council were to revise its local plan, Homes England who owns the site would still have the right to develop the site for employment use. He reiterated that permission to develop this land for employment use was granted to Homes England by the Government in 1991.
