Fly-tipping and waste problems occur on both public and private property. There are legal powers to tackle the problem in both locations. Yet Telford & Wrekin Council is not making adequate use of them. In fact, only 14 penalties were issued in 2019 despite 4,878 reported incidents of fly tipping across the borough. That means only 0.3% of incidents result in a prosecution.
Not only does accumulated waste and litter impact on the amenity value of neighbourhoods. It also attracts vermin and flies, creating a public health issue.
Woodside has a proud community and is being blighted by fly-tipping, littering and a culture of irresponsibility amongst a minority.
It's time we took action.
Councillor Greg Spruce wants secruity cameras installed on hotspots in Woodside, with signage warning fly tippers. This, combined with the scrapping of the bulky waste charge for the removal of large items, for all those with long term illness, disability, over 60 or in reciept of housing and/or council tax benefit.
Please sign our petition and back our campaign to clean up our streets and green spaces in Woodside!
Thank you!
Cllr Greg Spruce
